Address: Larmtorget 1, S-39126 Kalmar
Kalmar Theatre is definitely one of the most beautiful theatres in Sweden. Throughout its history, it has served as the major entertainment venue of Kalmar, and has been the site of a hotel, dance hall, cinema and even a circus with real horses. Although horses are no longer admitted, the theatre hosts plenty of theatre companies and other artists.
The theatre was designed by the famous architect, Bror Carl Malmberg. Dedicated in 1863, it’s a genuine masterpiece of that era. The theatre’s original elegance survives, thanks to a thorough renovation and restoration in 1987, which has earned the admiration of groups of visitors.
The theatre is available for guest performances, and can be hired by associations and businesses for dramatic performances, lectures and concerts, and other events, both regional and national. There is also cafe that serves refreshments during intermission, and can also be used for smaller events, and just as the auditorium, can be hired for various cultural events, lectures, and seminars.
You can obtain current schedules and book tickets through the Kalmar Ticket Centre (Kalmar Biljettcentrum).
